Web Advertising Terms Impressions
is the number of times a visitor sees a page - and hence an advertisement - on
a website. Hits
refer to the number of times a web server is accessed. The
Multiplier is a number assigned to each advertisement that controls
how often the ad is displayed in relation to other banners in the system. A banner
with a multiplier of 2 is displayed twice as often as a banner with a multiplier
of 1, and hence the number of impressions is clocked up in a shorter time frame.
Rotating
Banners are banners that change each time a page is accessed by a visitor.
This allows us to place 2 or more banners at a website simultaneously. CPM
is the cost per thousand impressions. Typical industry CPM rates are US$20-50.
Websites that are very focused and provide opportunities to very niche audience
will charge on the higher end, whereas websites that cater to a more general audience
will charge on the lower end. How
do I measure my campaign's success? Many
people use click-through ratios (CTR) to measure
the success of a banner compaign. CTR is calculated
by the number of times users clicked on the banner divided by the total number
of Impressions. This ratio will vary across
various websites, and may not be an accurate indicator of your campaign. The reason
is that while people may not click on the banner, they have been exposed to your
banner - and hence the product or service you are promoting - and this may generate
sales effects at a later stage when they see your product or services again. Thus
building brand awareness (especially if you are selling your own proprietary brand
of products and services) is a reason to advertise. Contact
